SimWars was born in 2017 as an intercollegiate competition for medical and nursing students to demonstrate their ability to assess and treat simulated emergency patients. RCSI Emergency Society's SimWars program has since evolved into an equal-access training scheme designed to educate as many students as possible in the basics of emergency patient management, with winning the competition as a secondary goal.
SonoGames is a point of care ultrasound (POCUS) focused intercollegiate competition. Training for this competition has been adapted into an open access scheme with weekly hands-on sessions provided both in-person by POCUS-specialised EM physicians in Ireland and through virtually-guided training from experts in the United States. Emergency Society owns and maintains two Butterfly iQ+ Ultrasound devices for this program.
