Learn More About RCSI Emergency Society

RCSI Emergency Society brings together a group of like-minded students that have an interest in EM and the subspecialties within. We pride ourselves on being a hands-on society. In the true fashion of any emergency department physicians, we hope to give our members the skills with procedures, thinking on their feet and making a management plan key to practicing in EM. We do what we can to bring the excitement of the ED to you!

Our events and training provide an opportunity for students to gain valuable clinical skills pertinent to the emergency department and assessment of undifferentiated patient presentations. SimWars, SonoGames, and Trauma Day are just some of the fantastic events that we have every year for any and all students interested in emergency medicine. We also are able to provide interested students with specific advice on preparing for away rotations in the ED and the pursuit of their EM careers.

SimWars

SimWars was born in 2017 as an intercollegiate competition for medical and nursing students to demonstrate their ability to assess and treat simulated emergency patients. RCSI Emergency Society's SimWars program has since evolved into an equal-access training scheme designed to educate as many students as possible in the basics of emergency patient management, with winning the competition as a secondary goal.

SonoGames

SonoGames is a point of care ultrasound (POCUS) focused intercollegiate competition. Training for this competition has been adapted into an open access scheme with weekly hands-on sessions provided both in-person by POCUS-specialised EM physicians in Ireland and through virtually-guided training from experts in the United States. Emergency Society owns and maintains two Butterfly iQ+ Ultrasound devices for this program.
